As an Embedded FPGA Developer at SICK Linköping, you’ll be part of an experienced team working at the heart of our 3D camera technology. The FPGA is a key component in our current and next-generation products – it’s where our most advanced image processing algorithms come to life.

What you will do

In this role, you’ll work in a team to plan, implement, and maintain the embedded domain of our 3D cameras. Focus will be on the FPGA in the embedded system, but also on the code that runs on the processor in the embedded system. You’ll contribute to both new development and customer-driven improvements in existing products. You will participate in code reviews and the maintenance of our test environment and CI using Gitlab CI.

For FPGA development we use major FPGA tools such as Vivado, Vitis and Questa. We program in VHDL and use VUnit/OSVVM for unit testing. We also use open-source tools like TSFPGA for build-automation.

For the embedded development on the processor, we use C/C++/Rust. We use Yocto Linux and our target is ARM. Scripting is done in Python. We have an extensive set of automated system tests on target. Buzz words are: Conan, CMake, gcc, cargo and docker.

Who we believe you are

You have a master’s degree in a relevant field, and, through your studies and/or work, you’ve gained hands-on experience with embedded development. You are either an FPGA developer that also feels confident in the embedded SW domain (C++/Rust), or an embedded SW developer with a big interest and some experience in FPGA development. A solid grasp of mathematics is also an advantage, as much of the work involves algorithm design and implementation.

With a proactive mindset and a collaborative spirit, you take ownership of your work and enjoy learning from others. Whether you’re early in your career or already have some experience, we’re looking for someone who’s eager to grow and make a meaningful contribution to our projects.

Recently we have started development on a new feature of our 3D Camera image sensor which is being able to acquire color images. As of now the image processing is done off device and your task would be to implement a color alignment step in the FPGA-pipeline and verify it’s use.

The SICK Nova team consist of 15 developers with a mix of experiences, age and gender. The work is being done using agile methodologies having a very tight collaboration with the product managers. We work in a continuous integration (CI) environment with test automation on the target.

SICK Nova is an application that runs on our industrial sensors, that helps users with or without programming knowledge to easily setup and solve their vision applications. Nova consists of Lua scripts running on a programmable sensor, together with a web user interface for configuration and visualization. There is a need for both gathering statistics during runtime, such as temperature, memory usage and average execution time, but also offline, where a user will test out if their configuration works well on a set of recorded images. The summer internship will be about to gathering information and summarize it from our Nova application.

Who are you?

The team we are looking to reinforce works with various aspects of Deep Learning, from the development of new network architectures, cloud services for advanced data management and training of deep neural networks to hardware-accelerated inference on our embedded industrial cameras and systems. The team is a specialist team that works closely with international colleagues, especially in Germany.

The tasks include new development, DevOps and quality assurance of our tools and services for Deep Learning.

We are looking for you who

To succeed in the role you need a motivation to work with productizing Deep Learning technology and making it available to a wide range of industrial applications. You also need experience of development in Python and knowledge in Deep Learning. It’s an advantage if you also have knowledge of Javascript/Typescript, backend development, Linux, Docker and Kubernetes.

About the job

As our Marketing Coordinator you will coordinate the marketing activities for the Machine Vision product portfolio, with the overall goal of creating concepts and marketing packages. I vårt team sysslar vi huvudsakligen med att designa algoritmer och djupa neurala nätverk. Det innefattar att köra och utvärdera träningar av nätverk, men också att designa, utveckla, implementera och utvärdera angränsande metoder för industriell bildbehandling. Allt med målet att skapa kompletta lösningar för industriella tillämpningar.

Vi tillämpar ett agilt arbetssätt och tror på självbeslutande team. Arbetet sker i mindre team och innebär stor variation. Framgång i arbetet förutsätter att du håller dig ajour med de senaste rönen inom deep learning och machine vision och har förmåga att omsätta dina kunskaper hela vägen från idé till verklig kundnytta. Arbetsuppgifter

På SICK i Linköping utvecklar vi avancerade 2D och 3D-kameror för industriautomation. Kamerorna är generella och kan programmeras att lösa olika uppgifter inom en stor mängd olika områden, exempelvis batteri-, bil-, konsumentelektronik-, livsmedels- och träindustrin med mera, antingen med klassisk bildbehandling eller med AI/deep learning. Du erbjuds omväxlande arbetsuppgifter där fokus är att utveckla nya tillämpningar för våra kameror. Mer specifikt innebär uppgifterna att:

• Utveckla nya tillämpningar för våra kameror.
• Som teknisk expert, supporta våra säljbolag och kunder runt om i världen.
• Ta fram och hålla utbildningar för våra kunder.

Du behöver

För att lyckas i rollen behöver du programmeringserfarenhet, goda språkkunskaper i engelska liksom viljan och intresset av att få resa i jobbet. Du har stor nytta av en teknisk högskoleutbildning, gärna civilingenjör inom lämpligt område. Har du dessutom erfarenhet och/eller intresse av bildbehandling är det meriterande.

Main tasks

Du är troligen en nyfiken utvecklare som älskar att lösa problem och har ett brett teknikintresse som du gillar att få användning av. Den huvudsakliga arbetsuppgiften är mjukvaruutveckling, men genom vårt nära kundsamarbete och vårt testlabb jobbar vi även praktiskt med robotar, kameror och andra sensorer. Vi jobbar med Vision och bildanalys i C++ och användargränssnitt med 2D/3D-visualisering i Java. Automatiska tester och ramverk för detta utvecklar vi i Python och vi underhåller och vidareutvecklar även vårt byggsystem och CI/CD pipeline.

Du kommer till ett välfungerande team bestående av erfarna och drivna kollegor som gärna delar med sig av sina kunskaper. Du kommer att arbeta med vidareutveckling av vårt visionsystem för bin-picking, som kallas PLB. Detta är ett PC-baserat system som använder 3D-kameror för att hitta friliggande objekt som en industrirobot kan plocka, vanligtvis ur en låda fylld med likadana objekt. Bred erfarenhet av allt från analys av kundbehov, till implementation, byggsystem och testautomation är meriterande, men framför allt bör du vara intresserad av hela kedjan. Vi jobbar i små korsfunktionella team och du kommer att bli inblandad i alla delar av utvecklingskedjan, från krav till implementation, testning och validering i vårt robotlab.

Erfarenhet eller intresse av automationslösningar eller visionlösningar är positivt. Det viktigaste är dock att du tycker om att ta dig an och lösa problem i grupp och drivs av att verkligen förstå och sätta dig in i våra kunders problem.

I takt med den ökande automatiseringsgraden inom industrin ökar också förfrågan på smarta och intuitiva vision system för robotstyrningsapplikationer som både är lätta att integrera och noggranna och tillförlitliga att använda. Genom att kombinera vår teknik för smarta kameror och sensorer kan vi “sätta ögon på robotar“ och göra dem smarta. Detta är ett område där vi vill fortsätta att växa. Till applikationsteamet inom Robot Guidance söker vi därför en applikationsingenjör.

Vi har ett tydligt mål i applikationstemet och det är kundnytta. Vi drivs av att få saker att fungera och hitta lösningar på våra kunders utmaningar. Vårt team är huvudansvariga för SICK koncernens globala Robot Guidance Systems portfölj, ett ansvar som vi framgångsrikt axlar med hjälp av vår samlade kompetens, entreprenörsanda och goda stämning.

Ditt arbete sker i huvudsak från vårt kontor i Linköping men då våra kunder och kollegor inom försäljningsorganisationen finns över hela världen behöver du också ha möjlighet samt trivas med resor i tjänsten. Vi ser helst att du har en högskole- eller universitetsutbildning med passande teknisk inriktning. Har du dessutom några års erfarenhet av bildbehandling och/eller robotprogrammering ser vi det som ett plus.
